About the role
We are recruiting for a manufacturing end user in the North East. They're looking for a Senior IT & Systems Development Engineer to take ownership of their SAP Business One system and wider IT development projects following an internal restructure. You'll be responsible for extending and enhancing their SAP B1 implementation, building web applications around ERP data, developing shop floor data capture systems, and integrating IoT and Factory 4.0 technologies to improve business intelligence and manufacturing reporting across the operation.
This is a hands-on role where you'll work closely with users across the business, manage third-party IT suppliers, and drive forward projects that directly support operational improvements and business expansion. Key Responsibilities
- Own the development and extension of SAP Business One, including building supporting web applications and integrating ERP data with IoT and Factory 4.0 implementations across the manufacturing operation
- Design, develop, test, deploy and maintain software solutions that improve data quality, streamline business processes and support accurate manufacturing reporting
- Write SQL queries, generate reports and extract data from SAP Business One to meet business intelligence and operational reporting requirements
- Develop and roll out self-built shop floor data capture systems, including tablet-based solutions across the factory floor to support real-time production tracking
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for SAP B1 users and stakeholders, supporting EDI exchanges with customers and resolving integration issues
- Manage third-party IT suppliers and contract renewals, and assist the external IT support provider with tickets that cannot be resolved remotely
What We're Looking For
- Proven SAP Business One experience combined with a wider IT and systems development background, ideally in a manufacturing or end-user environment
- Strong SQL and relational database skills, with hands-on experience writing queries and extracting data from ERP systems
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience with at least 5 years in a relevant role
- An engaging, collaborative personality with the ability to communicate effectively with users at all levels and build strong working relationships across the business
- Experience with SAP Business One SDK, Service Layer, extensions or add-ons would be an advantage but is not essential
- Exposure to IoT platforms, Industry 4.0 technologies, big data, analytics or technical support experience would be an advantage but is not essential
What's On Offer
- A salary of £45,000 – £55,000, with flexibility for the right person
- Hybrid working with 3 days onsite in the North East and 2 days remote, with the option to work consolidated hours over four days (Monday to Thursday, 7:30am – 5:15pm)
